How Verbs, Pronouns, and Adjectives Shape the Experience of Being

How Verbs, Pronouns, and Adjectives Shape the Experience of Being

In the formation of the Tensional Self, words are not just codes—they are synaptic triggers. When we activate a verb, pronoun, or adjective, we are not merely naming things; we are reorganizing neural networks, reconnecting emotions, images, and movements in ways that are functional to the moment.

1. Pronouns: The Anchoring Points Between the Self and the Other

Pronouns like “I, you, we, they” trigger networks of belonging and self-location. Their synaptic activation recruits areas of the medial prefrontal cortex, involved in self and other perception, as well as the Default Mode Network, which sustains self-referential thought.

- "I" activates autobiographical memory (Pei Utupe);

- "You" shifts focus to the other, triggering theory of mind;

- "We" summons circuits of empathy and belonging.

 In practice: By changing the pronoun, we alter the web of active synapses—the self that feels is modulated.

 2. Verbs: Synaptic Engines of Action

Verbs are markers of movement in "time." In the brain, they activate motor areas even without physical action (embodied simulation effect). Verbs also trigger frontal and temporal networks that organize sequences.

- "Ran" → activates the motor cortex as if you were running;

- "Felt" → activates the insula and somatosensory areas (Damasio’s mind);

- Future-tense verbs ("will do") recruit prospection circuits (hippocampus and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex).

Result: The verb connects the self to a movement—real or imagined—reinforcing the tension between intention and expression.

3. Adjectives: Synapses of Emotional Qualification

Adjectives activate the limbic system and associative areas, qualifying images or events already recorded in episodic memory. They function as affective modulators, acting as emotional filters of the Imagetic Apus.

Words like "sweet," "heavy," "horrible," or "divine" do not merely describe—they reenact previously felt emotions.

They shape how memory is re-recorded, how experience is stored, and how the Tensional Self is interpreted.

In practice: The same noun paired with different adjectives reactivates distinct synapses, producing opposing meanings.

Conclusion: Words Are Architectures of Synaptic Networks

- Pronouns orient the *self* within the relational field.

- Verbs create sequence, movement, and temporality.

- Adjectives model the affective tone and valence of lived experience.

Each of these linguistic categories acts as a key to synaptic reorganization, capable of transforming a bodily flow into a livable, memorable, and communicable cognitive structure.
