What's New and Next? - In a session at the State of the Valley conference on how fast-moving changes in technology are impacting our region, two of our region’s deep thinkers, Pinterest Chief Scientist Jure Leskovec and noted futurist Paul Saffo, offered their respective views. What’s Next? Professor Saffo outlined the fast and slow trends shaping our region, how innovation occurs and how its rapid growth is not necessarily all good. “Nothing new comes into our lives without a hidden curse,” he said, meaning that our technology innovations are not only providing solutions to some of our challenges, but are in fact contributing to creating them as well. ABOUT THE CONFERENCE: A full house of 1300 people packed the San José McEnery Convention Center Feb. 9 for Joint Venture's annual State of the Valley conference. The audience heard reports on the economy, the future of technology, and regional housing and transit challenges.
